Back-to-back wins! ??
Last week our first half wasn’t the best but couldn’t argue about the effort or performance in the first half today. Constant pressure, passing, good football being played throughout but we just couldn’t put away the chances. We did finally open the scoring when Ben found Jack in the box whose effort was saved initially but then was carried over the line by the keeper.
We kept pushing and needed the second goal to put some daylight between us and Manea. It came when Toby, who had another brilliant game, had a shot (though possibly a cross ?) from the edge of the area which looped over the keeper.
2-0 at half time didn’t tell the story as it should have been many more. The second half we started a bit slow and gave opposition too much respect, time on the ball and chances. However, when Tom picked up the ball from a deep cross and got it back in the box for Lee to head home, it gave us the impetus back. We kept pushing and a corner from Charlie eventually found Callum whose effort was deflected off JJ and into the net.
Unfortunately, for a split moment our concentration switched off and we allowed Manea to pull one back, the clean sheet we wanted was lost. We were determined to get more goals and keep attacking until the final whistle. Barry’s cross was misjudged by the keeper who left the goal open for Jack to prod home. Our final goal was scored by Michael who latched onto a through ball from Tom and he slotted past the keeper.
It’s a great start to the season and the spirit is positive amongst the squad. We still know we can play even better and be more clinical in front of goal but we’re getting the points on the board and that’s the main thing! ??
